 BULGARIA reported the highest annual growth in industrial production in EU

The European statistical office Eurostat presented the data on monthly and annual changes by groups of goods and countries for the month of May 2022. It is clear from the above that Bulgaria reports the highest growth in industrial production on an annual basis compared to other EU countries – an increase of more than 20% (20.2%), ahead of Denmark (17.2%).

On July 8, the National Statistical Institute announced that in May, on an annual basis, the growth in the processing industry was 21.1%, in the mining industry – 18.5%, in the production and distribution of electricity and heat energy and gas – 14.1%.

In the fifth reporting month of the year, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial production rose by 0.8% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU compared to April 2022, according to Eurostat estimates. In April 2022, industrial production grew by 0.5% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU.

In May 2022, industrial production increased by 1.6% in the euro area and by 2.7% in the EU compared to the same month in 2021.

In the EU, production of non-durable goods increased by 8.7%, durable goods by 5.4%, capital goods by 1.8%, energy by 0.7% and intermediate goods by 0.6 %.

Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest annual increases were recorded in Bulgaria (+20.2%), Denmark (+17.2%) and Poland (+12.5%). The biggest declines were observed in Malta (-4.8%), Luxembourg (-2.1%) and Germany (-1.4%).
